PMHBL History

Petronet MHB Limited (PMHBL) was incorporated on 31 July 1998 under common carrier principle to provide petroleum product transportation facility from Mangalore Refinery (MRPL) to the Oil Marketing Company (OMCs) terminals at Hassan & Devangonthi (Bangalore). The total cost of the project was Rs 640 crores and the length of the pipeline is 362.36 kms. The main object is to transport petroleum products to the customers through OMCs in order to reduce road / rail transportation, reduce environmental impact and safe delivery.

It was a Joint Venture promoted by M/s Petronet India Ltd. (PIL), and M/s Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (HPCL) with 26% equity by each company. After PMHBL underwent corporate debt restructuring in 2006, HPCL & ONGC were holding 29% equity each, consortium of nationalized banks was holding 34% equity and Petronet India Ltd. was holding 8% equity in the Company. Further restructuring led to exit of banks and PIL and since year 2018, PMHBL is a ONGC subsidiary company with ONGC and HPCL presently holding equal equity of 50% each.

This company started commercial operations in 2003-04. PMHBL pipeline is transporting petroleum products such as MS commonly known as petrol, HSD commonly known as diesel, and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) to meet the needs of various districts in Karnataka and neighboring areas of other states, by way of bulk handover to HPCL, BPCL, IOCL and MRPL at Hassan and Devangonthi.

PMHBL paid a dividend of 16.35% for FY 2023-24.  In 2024-25, PMHBL again expects to touch similar numbers and even exceed them. Buoyed by the industry demand in this region, PMHBL is now working on an action plan to achieve the designed thruput of 5.60 MMTPA of petroleum products, in 2025-26 and beyond.
